Points to consider when buying a new car

When the time comes to buy a new car you may get swept up in the excitement and find it hard to decide on the right car. Here are some tips and points to consider when buying a new car.

The first thing you need to do is set yourself a budget. This is important when making any large purchase as you need to ensure you are not spending beyond your means. Setting yourself a budget will help you narrow down the make and model of the car you want ' even through most manufacturers produce models in various price ranges..

Once you have set yourself a budget then it is time to do some research. Make sure you use all of the resources available to you to their maximum, especially the internet. The internet is great for researching which car to buy as there are many specific sited and forums where people have commented about a car they have recently bought.

Although these comments can often help, you should not treat them as gospel as they are personal opinions. On the other hand, if there is more than a fair share of negative comments from various people then it may be worth staying away from a particular model. Researching in the comfort of your own home is less stressful than in a sales environment where the salesman is trying to persuade you to buy.

Family and friends may also be able to offer some useful advice if they have recently bought a new car. As with internet forums though, somebody's personal opinion and experience may differ from others so take them with a pinch of salt.

Before you decide on the right make and model you should take it for a test drive to get a feel for the car and to see if you like the way it drives. You will be offered various extras and features but consider which ones you really need as they will often be added on to the price.

It is important to be patient when deciding on the right car, when you have done your research and got a list price on several cars, visit various dealers and try and bargain with them. Car manufacturers tend to set targets for each dealership for each quarter, therefore going at the end of March, June, September and December may mean you get a better deal as salesmen try to hit their targets.

Enjoy your new car and make sure you keep it well maintained to ensure you get the most out of it.
